Beta Cloth

Since 1985 Dunmore Aerospace has been providing material solutions for the space industry. Beta cloth is a high-performance polytetra fluorinated ethylene (PTFE) impregnated glass cloth. It is used extensively as a MMOD shielding material and provides protection against atomic oxygen in low-Earth orbits.
Reasons to Choose Beta Fabric
Beta fabric’s ability to withstand high temperatures pared with its high strength makes it ideal as a disruptor-layer MMOD material for multilayer insulation blankets. When high-velocity impacts occur, particles break into smaller pieces and release intense heat. While the smaller particles pass through the disruptor layer and are stopped by a stopper layer beneath, the beta cloth layer dissipates the heat. Standard beta cloth has a white surface, which allows that heat to be efficiently radiated out to space. If you are looking for additional light blocking properties for your MLI blanket design, aluminized beta cloth is a good alternative.
Beta cloth is an excellent choice for:
- Protection against space effects such as MMOD, atomic oxygen, UV radiation, space plasma
- Low α / ϵ applications
- Relatively high temperature applications
