Aluminized Beta Cloth - Satellite MLI

Since 1985 Dunmore Aerospace has been providing material solutions for the space industry. Our metallized beta cloth products are a critical component for a variety of space applications. Customers use metallized beta cloth to protect spacecraft from the harsh space environment.

The material is often integrated into MLI blankets, which insulates critical components from the following space effects:

  • Atomic oxygen degradation in LEO orbit
  • UV radiation
  • Space plasma

Unlike raw beta cloth, aluminized beta cloth provides improved thermal stability since the material has lower absorptance values. In addition to the critical thermal properties, metallized beta cloth provides improved durability for MLI blankets. Integrating MLI blankets can be a delicate process. You do not want to cause any damage to your MLI blanket during the integration phase of the project. By utilizing aluminum beta cloth into your MLI design, you will improve the handleability characteristics of your MLI blanket.

Aluminized Beta Cloth - Micrometeoroid & Orbital Debris Shielding

According to a 2020 report by ESA, there are roughly 2.18 million objects between 10 cm and 1mm that are orbiting the earth. With the proliferation of satellite launches these figures will not likely decline in the future. In order to mitigate the risk of MMOD, aluminized beta cloth plays an important role in your design. Beta cloth has been shown to be an effective MMOD shielding material for spacecrafts.
