Reinforced Aluminized Kapton Laminate - Satellite MLI

Since 1985 Dunmore Aerospace has been providing material solutions for the space industry. Our Nomex® aluminized Kapton® laminate is a MLI blanket material that consists of a layer of Nomex® scrim sandwiched between first surface aluminized polyimide film. The material provides low absorptance and emittance values and can withstand a wide range of temperature conditions.

Reasons to Choose Reinforced Aluminized Kapton® Laminate

Reinforced aluminized Kapton® laminate is useful in applications where the natural strength or tear resistance properties of aluminized Kapton® film are not sufficient for your mission requirements. The addition of the Nomex® scrim strengthens the aluminized polyimide film from tearing that can be caused by handling or articulating components. By sandwiching the Nomex® scrim between two layers of aluminized Kapton® film rather than one layer of aluminized Kapton® film, the low emissivity of the aluminum layer can be preserved. This property is particularly useful in optimizing thermal insulation while offering handling protection.

Nomex® aluminized Kapton® laminate is an excellent choice for:

  • Low absorptance and emissivity
  • Applications that require tear and puncture resistance
  • Moderately low to high temperature environments
