SiO2 Silver Coated Teflon Film - Satellite MLI

Since 1985 Dunmore Aerospace has been providing material solutions for the space industry. Teflon™ film is the base material used for our SiO2 silver Teflon™ film products. This material is used in low to moderate temperature MLI blanket applications, Flexible Optical Solar Reflectors (FOSR) and thermal radiators. Also known as FEP film, it is well known for its chemical resistance and ability to be optically clear, allowing for superior performance when used in second surface mirror applications.

Reasons to Choose SiO2 Silver FEP Film

Since the silicon dioxide layer is optically clear, SiO2 silver FEP film has identical thermal optical properties to bare silver FEP film. As a result, the SiO2 coating adds the benefit of protection against Atomic Oxygen prevalent in the Low Earth Orbit (LEO) environment without affecting thermal performance. The coating thickness is minimal, giving you the needed protection with a negligible change in film mass.

The first surface of SiO2 silver coated FEP film is also electrically non-conductive. If low electrical conductivity is a desired feature, then the SiO2 coating reinforces the high surface and through electrical resistance of FEP film. If your application requires a more conductive surface, an ITO layer can be added.
