Reinforced Aluminum Coated Black Kapton® Film

Since 1985 Dunmore Aerospace has been providing material solutions for the space industry. Our Nomex® reinforced aluminum coated black Kapton® film is a carbon-filled polyimide film with a thin layer of deposited aluminum on one side. The material is reinforced with a lightweight Nomex® scrim. The Nomex® reinforcement provides higher durability and tear resistance for higher stress MLI blanket applications.
Reasons to Choose Reinforced Aluminized Black Kapton® Film
Nomex reinforced aluminized black Kapton® is typically used as outer layer MLI material for applications requiring tear-resistance and high absorptance and emissivity values. The aluminum coated side prevents radiated heat leaking to and from the spacecraft and provides a continuous ground to the spacecraft. The black, space-facing surface provides stray light mitigation and surface charge dissipation.
Nomex reinforced aluminum coated black polyimide film is an excellent choice for:
- Tear-resistant MLI applications
- Applications requiring high absorptance and emittance
- Stray light mitigation
- Surface charge dissipation
